If you were my friend,
I would know just what you're going through
I'd know your joys and fears, the things that make you blue.
If we were buddies,
I would pray for you. You wouldn't have to ask.
And if you needed help, it wouldn't matter what the task.
Friends like you and I
We get along in all sorts of situations.
Working hard together or remembering enfatuations.
If we were friends, you and I
We'd be able to trust that we'd never let each other down.
But never hold back the truth, even when it draws a frown.
If you were my friend,
You could trust my honest opinion, never let you dodge what's right.
I would lovingly remind you whatever you do is in God's sight.
If we were best of friends,
You'd do the same for me. You'd call and say hello, not take up too much time.
Just to let me know you were worried and that I was on your mind.
If you had to you'd leave a message that said, "Hey, bro I'm praying for you."
You'd understand my worries and the challenges I go through.
Then I would call you back...maybe tomorrow or some other day.
I'd say, "Sorry bro, I've been busy. But I'm so glad you still pray."
If we were good buddies,
We'd show fellowship just like God intended.
I would return in full, all the prayers that you have lended.
If we were all good friends,
There'd be no crimes or need for any laws.
I'd be strong enough to admit to you all my flaws.
We'd not fall out over disagreements or any other cause.
Iron sharpens iron, God said in a Proverb clause.
We'd each be better men and women worthy of applause
and not prone to the worries that so often give us pause.
So, I chose to stand in the gap for you my fellow man in Christ.
You are worth as much to me my friend as the one who paid your price.
And when I next get to see you. I'll remind you of it all.
Let us lift each other up in Christ that each of us may stand tall.
